We had a fantastic week celebrating Halloween. It all started 2 weeks ago where the students had to plan this celebration. The school and the teacher hardly got involved. This was a project planned and carried out by Shayma. and her team. The school took a step back and just help them with their plans. I must admit this was an excellent project By Students For Students. Activities started at 12.55 to 4.15pm. They started with face painting with kind compliments from Lela, the mother of Shyma. We had many witches, zombies, and Thai ghosts. They even got to decorate cupcakes and had a competition. Rajpal won the best cupcake. Chandra won the best dress. They had a scary feast of brains, pumpkins, and fingernails all made from delicious food to look like these festive snacks. They enjoyed watching Casper the friendly ghost, taking part in a scavenger hunt, being part of a costume competition and performing a dance they worked very hard on. Everyone had a fantastic time and went home happy and delighted from the day’s festivities.
This week, students in upper focused on vocabulary terms that are important to know in order to do well with each unit. We made it interactive by having them write out the definitions and gluing the terms on top so they can flip through it and read each definition individually. This will help them study it later on since they can focus on one word at a time versus all of them.
Students in lower had a game to see how their ability to recognize the definitions of the key vocabulary terms. They knew right off the bat about globes and maps but struggled to identify the definitions for compass rose and landforms. We will continue working on those terms to help them master them by working on some hands on activities.
Star of the Week
Shyama once again took Star of the Week Award for showing great responsibility in leading the Halloween celebration. She showed great organization skills by keeping everything orderly. As this was the first project undertaken by the Students For The Students, the school management gave them thumps up. Shyama has set the high standards with this Halloween celebration. We hope with every new project undertaken by the students, will achieve better results. Our next By Students For Students project is led by Katya for the Loy Kratong celebration. So stay tuned for our next update!
