The mid term holiday starts from the 14th – 21st October. We have lined up many activities for the kids in our Mini Summer Camp Krabi. There is a picnic lunch at the Huai To Waterfall. Also a Science lesson there for some topics that they have covered in the class. We will have many fun activities at the National Park and this park is well kept and it is so beautiful. Unfortunately the kids will not be taking a dip at the waterfall for safety reasons. One of the other afternoon’s we will have a visit to the Mangroove and another afternoon we conduct a baking class by Miss June. Obviously every morning will include an hour’s lesson each of Maths and English, except on the day we will visit the Huai To Waterfall.Sign up soon or visit the school to discuss if you have other ideas for this Mini Summer Camp Krabi. Cost is 4500 Bahts for the Mini Summer Camp.
Continuing on with our theme of ancient civilizations, students began to learn about Ancient Egyptians. We watched a fascinating documentary on how Egyptians lived and why they created the wondrous pyramids. Students had to take notes on the documentary and we discussed the importance of the Egyptians to our world history.
History Lower:
The students enjoyed another activity of creating a flip dictionary of some key words from Ancient Egypt and watched a short video that explained what Pharaohs, hieroglyphs and sarcophagus were. They also had the opportunity to watch the animated film The Prince of Egypt which brought to life some important concepts they learned.
Chinese
This week in Chinese class students learned about the Beijing opera , The teacher explained what the Beijing opera was and showed them the many masks worn in the opera. They learned that the masks for each character are different. They then had the chance to make their own Beijing opera mask. Once finished, they practiced reading and writing in Chinese.
Our School Assembly is beginning to be a very valuable and informative for both the students and the school. Actually its a time we share and get feed back. Last week Kalawati suggested that we should have a more dynamic uniform and at our last meeting, she even came up with a design. Bravo!! This week we discussed if we should reduce our 3 times weekly routine for spelling to just 2 times. We discussed the pros and cons and we took the matter to a vote. A good majority of the students wanted to continue with the 3 times as they felt that they were benefiting from this. We advised the students that we will take this matter up at the Parent Teacher Conference and will inform their parents about the vote they took and their preferences. Democracy in action!
Star Of The Week & Chess Champion
Our star of the week was Shayma. Shayma is really like the big sister to all the kids and know how to control the discipline of the other kids. As for her academic progress, she is so determined to move forward. We are so proud to have her in our school. Well done Shaym and the school has benefit a lot from your presence too.
Again the battle of the titan was again the same. Gerrit and Rajpal had numerous battles of Chess but Gerrit managed to hang on to his title. Other students also took a shot at the title, but Gerrit was able to secure his position as the reigning Chess Champion of Singapore Genius School Krabi.
