This week the children learned about the jungle and all the animals living in it. The children got to learn the names of many different animals that live in the jungle. The kids were excited to learn the names of the animals. Sometimes they get excited and make funny noises and funny faces.
For the craft, we made a painting of a parrot with our handprints, which the children really enjoyed. The kids loved being hands-on and seeing how the painting looked when it was finished. They were also not afraid to get their hand dirty. They were so curious all the time.
For numeracy, we practiced counting by using paper monkeys and hanging them on a “vine”. The children had to practice being gentle because if they were not gentle, the monkeys would ‘jump’ off the vine and they had to start over. This was really good for their fine motor skills development. The kids loved playing with the monkeys and tried seeing how many they could connect together before they fell off. The children practiced separating shapes and colors, and writing their numbers.
Nursery Science
For Science and Discovery of the World class, we attempted to make slime using kitchen ingredients, and the children
learned how to mix things and talk about how to do things step by step. They also learned how to talk about things that didn’t go well (the slime was too sticky) and how we can fix it. Even though the slime experiment wasn’t a success, the children really enjoyed it. Anything that was hands-on, you could count on them. Their Morning Glory that they planed 2 weeks ago is growing nice and steady. The kids are beginning to understand more and how we grow vegetables.
The children really enjoyed all the activities this week and learning how to talk about different animals. We did a lot of activities that got the children excited to learn.
In Language and Literacy class, Thai class the students played a game to learn Thai consonants. Teacher Xin wrote the Thai consonants on the board and they had to find and circle the correct letter on their paper. The children played games and sang songs to make learning fun. The children practiced writing and the teacher read Thai stories.
In Chinese class, the students learned simple Chinese words and practiced by repeating after Teacher Xin. The children used flash cards to practice and practiced writing, then sang songs and played games to make the words easy to remember.
