The students have been working hard on their workbooks. Class room lessons are challenging. The not so fun part is that our outdoor activities have been curtailed. As for our school, we are taking a more conservative approach. This week they had a cooking class instead. They made some Thai desert at a restaurant nearby. The restaurant was closed to other visitors when we visited. The kids had tremendous fun and did enjoy the food that they cooked. Some kids even took back some for their parents to try.
Singapore Mathematics (Upper)
This week, we continued to do lots of activities using percentages. We concentrated on converting fractions to decimals, decimals to percentages, and vice versa. Students were challenged to do 20 items every day with different levels per day to give them more exposure to the lesson and enable them to perfectly solve problems related to the topic. Next week, we will tackle more topics related to percentages.
Singapore Mathematics (Lower)
We continued to do activities related to converting improper fractions to mixed numbers. Students have to do lots of activities for them to have more exposure and strategies to easily solve problems related to it. They also learned about converting fractions from a mixed number to its improper fraction form. Next, we will continue to do activities related to converting mixed numbers to improper fractions.
For Science we learned about conductors and insulators. Students were challenged to list down things that can be a conductor of electricity in a limited time and share it with their classmates. After the activity, they explained why other things were actually conductors and others are insulators. They also learned some safety precautions when using electricity.
This week, we continued to discuss the parts and functions of the skeletal system. Students are now aware of the importance of the bones inside our bodies. They also learned some facts about it and did some worksheets and activities for them to be more familiar with the topic. We also started to discuss the parts of the Muscular System. We will continue in tackling this topic next week.
Singapore Mathematics Award
This week, students strived hard just to get this award. Everyone did their best but only one got the award. The award went to Gerrit, an upper primary student who got good scores in every activity they did and gaining 80 %, the highest percentage in their activities this week. He strives hard this week and eager to finish his activity on time.
Star of the week
Katya was the star of the week. She is always so helpful in class and is always the first one to volunteer for anything. She worked really hard in class and strives to understand the material the best she can. Katya has made tremendous progress in all her subjects. Her parents had a visit at the school this week and were satisfied with the progress she was making here at Singapore Genius School Krabi.
