Discovery of the World
This week the children learned about the ocean and all the animals living in it. The children had to find the animals in the “ocean” (a bucket of water) and tell me which animals they found. The kids were excited to learn the names of all the animals. Children love having their teachers play with them. The active involvement and enthusiasm of their teachers motivate children to have fun and learn.
Fine Motor Skills
For the craft, we made bracelets from seashells and beads, and we also made a jellyfish by painting plates and using yarn as the tentacles. The children enjoyed making the crafts and showing off their bracelets. This activity is really great for the fine motor skills development. Children naturally love to move and play. The learning area, Motor Skills Development seeks to develop children’s motor skills and knowledge of health and safety through participation in physical activities. As they participate in these activities, they not only develop physical skills, but also grow in confidence and self-esteem to fulfill the demands placed on them later in life.
Numeracy
We practiced counting the fish, and identifying numbers and using shells to count out that number. The children practiced separating shapes by placing different fish in the correct fishbowl according to their shapes. They practiced separating colors by placing the legs on the octopus according to color. The children also practiced writing their numbers.
Language and Literacy
In Thai nursery class, we did activity about matching pictures. Teacher Xin started to do pictures and divide it into parts and then switched them and have the kids practice speaking Thai conversation with the teacher.
For Chinese nursery class we learn about Chinese art and Chinese flag. In the class Teacher Xin told them stories about Chinese mask and showed them pictures. Later we started to color the mask and we learn about China flag.
Through these activities, children will find the joy in movement. This lays the foundation for them to continue to be active and more inclined to incorporate regular physical activities later on in life. And next week we will follow our curriculum to have fun with the kids while they are learning.
