Every week, we just highlight some subjects and activities but not all in our weekly report. Do enjoy reading them and email if you need to clarify or see ways how we can improve our weekly update.
The end of this week marks the beginning of the second mid term break. Parents are kindly reminded to block off their calendar for the 25th February at 9am for our Parent Teacher Conference. This will be our 2nd and final conference for this school year. If you have any issues that you will like to discuss, please forward to us earlier so that we can include them in the agenda. Please email them by the 20th February so that we can accord you sufficient time during the meeting.
The nursery kids started each day learning to greet each other, and started learning “how are you?”. The children also learned what compliments are, and how to recognize when someone gives them a compliment. We will continue to practice giving compliments and how to respond to compliments.
Science
For science, we did two different experiments. The first experiment we used candy, placed it in a bowl, then added water to watch the colors bleed into the water. The kids practiced patience because if they touched the bowl, the colors would mix and become brown. The kids enjoyed watching the colors mix, and afterwards they tried to color a circular piece of paper to look like the colored water. Then we made a crystal heart, by using pipe cleaners and building salt water. I made a heart shape using pipe cleaners, then we boiled water (the children watched as I explained the process and how to be safe while using the equipment) then we poured the salt water in and watched as the salt crystals slowly formed. This experiment was slow, so the children practiced patience by checking in on the crystal heart throughout the day.
Robotics
Robotics is a time for fun and enjoyment. Our Robotics lesson also involves fine motor skills. The kids had to fit small parts to the lego. The lesson was to construct a moving satellite. The kids were so excited each time we changed the sound after each operation. They also learn what is fast and slow. They also had to practice by looking at the computer and fit the parts correctly. The kids were a fun lot. They know how to take turns and be patient when its not their turn. They also are helpful when a piece fell on the floor and they kept finding it.
Thai
This week in Thai nursery class the children sang along to Thai consonants song, and practiced speaking and pronouncing the Thai alphabet using flash cards. The children practiced their number in thai and played games where they matched cards with different numbers of objects to the number.
Chinese
In Chinese nursery class, the children practiced vocabulary by looking at flash cards and repeating after the teacher. The children were excited to learn new words and apply it when doing exercises in the activity book.
Next week we will learn about hygiene and how to stop germs so we don’t get sick, and help others from getting sick.
