CoronaVirus. The virus seem to be picking up more victims and spreading faster. Singapore has raised the Dorscon (Disease Outbreak Response System Condition) level to Orange. It is just one level from Red. The disease is spreading at an alarming rate as people with no contact are also falling ill to this virus. There is a general panic among Singaporeans and the supermarket shelfs are being cleared out at an alarming rate. They are so afraid that there could be a lock down also in Singapore. So parents are once again advised that even a slight flu symptom, should be treated not lightly and your child should not come to school.
Music
The school will celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th February. This project is also run under the “For Student By Student”. Students have been working on practicing their dance routine for their Valentine’s Day Celebration. There are 2 Chairmans for this project, Kalavati and Rajpal. They have been busy preparing their activities for this day.
Thai
This week in Thai upper class we learned about Thai grammar and its correct use. The teacher made sentences and had students to correct the sentence . Then the students practiced Thai reading and they made a short sentence and gave students a chance to read. After the students had finished reading, the teacher then asked students to explain the passage they read.
This week in Thai lower Primary we had simple Thai conversation in the class and the students made 15 simple conversations. The students had to try to write and this gave them a chance to practice.
Chinese
This week in Chinese Primary we learned Chinese vocabulary. The teacher explained to the students how to speak and write. The students were then given a chance to memorize the words. The teacher gave them the meaning and gave the students a chance to try to speak Chinese. And then they practiced how to introduce ourselves and family in Chinese. They had to write them down on paper and we had images for them to draw.
Singapore Mathematics (Upper)
For the students not to forget the process of dividing decimals, we did a lot of examples and experienced solving on the board for them to grasp and practice different strategies to divide a given problem easily. Every day, we answered 10 items and every single day of their class, they’re getting better and better, and able to finish the task given to them on time.
Singapore Mathematics (Lower)
For the third week dividing numbers, students worked hard just to finish their activities on time with flying colors. They are still improving their skills in solving problems regarding division, we had to do a lot of activities and quizzes for them to practice and enhance their skills in solving it. This week, some students improved a lot and some of them still had a hard time to divide. To help students, they have to do mental maths, peer tutoring, and a lot of board work practices. We will continue this practice next week, for the others not to fall behind and struggle again to the next lesson. Singapore Maths at its best!
Star of the Week And Maths Award
Our new student Mohan seem to doing so well. On his first week here he has managed to pick up 2 awards. We hope that with him here and Shayma, they will inspire the other students to be more serious with their work. Mohan also managed to get 97 % for the maths competition and that entitled him to our Singapore Maths awards.
Chess Champion
Shayma managed to win the Chess Championship this week. Most of our students play chess and some of them play very well. With a strong core team, they will eventually help uplift the standard of chess here at our school.
