This week we practiced greetings every morning, with each child saying good morning to each other in turn. The kids practiced saying our names in full sentences. We practiced “he/she” by saying, “her name is____, his name is ______”. We talked about emotions and what can make us feel that way. “I am excited when we go to the beach”. Having the children take turns speaking, allows them to gain confidence and feel comfortable expressing themselves. I ask the children questions in a structured way so that they can hear the others answer, which allows the younger children to learn from the older children.
We also practiced counting, and learning to identify the numbers. The children can count to 10 but need more practice identifying the numbers randomly. We played games where the children had to identify the number on a cup and place an object inside. If the children couldn’t find the number, we counted up to that number so they could make the connection between the counting and what that number looks like.
The kids loved learning about seeds and plants, and learned that different types of seeds grow different plants. We read books and looked at pictures about the life cycle of plants and talked about growing plants for the school, and what is needed to grow them and keep them healthy.
Next week, we will learn about our bodies, expand on emotions, practicing reading and writing, and build on what we practiced this week. The kids seem to be having a great time in the new school. Teacher Danea is ever so patient to have conversations with the kids. The kids love hanging around her. The have established a close bond within a week. Job well done!
