I hope you have had a wonderful break over the Christmas period and have had the chance to spend some important time with your families. As we approach the end of the first week of term 2, please allow me to welcome you back to what I’m sure will be another exciting term. Please note that we will have our mid term exams on the 20th January. And on the 3rd February the students have been enrolled for an international online Maths exam based on their age. All these exams will take place at school during normal school time.
The first term saw the launch of “By Student For Student” project. It is turning out to be a very exciting as the students are actively involved in the extra programes that the school wants to organize. Where we appoint a student to be a Chairman of a project and he will lead with the rest of the students. The students are learning so much with this approach. Its hard work but truly rewarding.
This week also witness the migration of the Nursery students to their new school at Keittikun Road. The nursery kids are having such great fun in their new environment. We also welcomed Teacher Danae. Teacher Danae is be the new head of Nursery. Danae is a very experienced teacher and she from the United States of America. We should see massive improvements with Teacher Danae leading the nursery.Without the nursery students the school seems little empty though. We miss them. To make up we are inviting them over for our Valentine day celebration here at Primary school.
This week students began to write their essays on Alice in Wonderland. We went over the outline of writing a descriptive essay then the students had to find details using all 5 senses for each of the chapters. Once the students went through each of the chapters then they were able to narrow down their choices and pick a setting, situation and character to write their essays on. They began writing their first body paragraph and learned the structure of a body paragraph.
This week students began to write their essays on The Wizard of Oz. Because of their young age, the students had a very basic essay assignment. It is similar to the upper primary essay but they do not have to provide quotes or an explanation. They learned about the structure of a body paragraph by using the hamburger method. Comparing how a hamburger is very plain without all the extra ingredients to their paragraphs being very boring without adding all the details in there.
This week, students reviewed the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of
fractions. They solved problems on the board and had a swift explanation on each and on how they come up with their answers. They also learned to transform fractions into decimals and vice versa. It is important to know decimals because these are worded problems that have both fractions and decimals.
This week, students reviewed the multiplication of numbers. We did mental math, board works, and demonstrations on how to do multiplication of numbers using their fingers. They also learned how to multiply 2 digit numbers by 1 digit number and 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers with and without repetition. They solved problems on the board and did worksheets about it.
Star of the Week.
The star of the week went to Katya. Katya has consistently been working hard both in class and at home. She is completing her assignments diligently. Katya truly make a role model for the other kids. Keep up the good work Katya.
