This week saw many activities. The biggest event was the Loy Krathong celebration in our school. In this event, the work actually started right after the Halloween celebration. The person nominated to chair the Loy Krathing project was Katya. Katya and all the students planned this project with very little interferences from the school. This project was another project “By Students For Students”. They finally settled to have the Loy Krathong to be celebrated over 3 days so that they will have more time to immerse themselves into Thai culture. They created their own Krathong and Khun June baked some cake Krathongs. The second day they used their break time to have a Thai cooking class where they learnt how to make corn with coconut milk. On the third day, they use their break time to learn some Thai cultural dance. Overall the project was a huge success. The students are learning from so many angles when they do these kind of projects. They take responsibility and ownership. These are our future leaders. You can read more about our Loy Krathong celebration write up by Katya.
Right after the Loy Krathong, the students started to prepare the birthday celebration of Chandra. They use their art class time and and their lunch breaks to prepare for this celebration. Each student prepared a birthday card for Chandra. We used part of our School Assembly time for this celebration. Chandra’s mom brought a nice home made cake, donuts and Khun June baked some cup cakes. Kalavati performed a solo dance and again Kalavati and Rajpal sang a song, “Count on me”. Before Chandra cut his cake, he gave a moving speech, that move his mother to have tears of joy! The kids from Primary and Nursery sang a loud birthday song and finally they enjoyed the food.
Our next “By Student For Student” activity will be the Christmas celebration. Parents are welcome to give suggestions. I will discuss this during our School Assembly and see how is the response from the students and the level of participation they want for this celebration.
