This week students began to learn how to find and order information in non fictional texts. We discussed where they could find information and brought it back to non fictional texts. Students learned how to properly find words in a dictionary, learned the uses of a dictionary, and had to use it in order to answer questions. They also learned the uses of a contents and index page. Thereafter, they explored a few different texts and could explain why it was useful. They answered questions after looking through. Students continued to practice retelling a story using sequence words. They were able to recall information from the story and summarize what happened. They then wrote a 6 sentence short story that followed the same story line as the stories they read.
The younger students learned the “d” and “m” sounds and could identify what words had each sound. They were able to blend three letter words together to read and were able to spell words such as sit, pin, pat, mat. They also continued to practice writing the letters d and m.
Students worked on learning their Halloween song, “Calling All The Monsters”. It’s a fun, catchy song which they enjoy singing along to. The intention is for them to sing it during their Halloween event.
Students learned about the history surrounding why people celebrate Halloween. They enjoyed learning about it as they did not know why people celebrated. They learned how it originated in Ireland and discussed how it started and how it came to be what it is today.
This week in ICT class, we learned about video editing. They downloaded images and music. Using a simple video editor they added their images and music to create a video and added effects.
Art & Craft
This week in Art & Craft class, we use recycled paper and painted it black as a background. They worked on a creative Halloween project. Furthermore, the students imagined scary works, such as drawing red on paper to imitate blood and fear.
